As reported by the Seattle PI:The ferry Kitsap has been removed from service on the Seattle-Bremerton run after a crew discovered a small crack in the hull, Washington State Ferries reports.
The 124-car vessel is expected to be sidelined through the weekend.
The Kitsap will be replaced by the 90-car Sealth, which currently is sailing the Point Defiance/Tahlequah route. The Sealth is expected to be ready for the 4:20 p.m. sailing from Seattle. Tuesday’s one-boat schedule for the rest of the afternoon is as follows:
From Seattle: 12:35 p.m., 3 p.m.
From Bremerton: 1:45 p.m.
The ferry Hiyu, on standby at the Eagle Harbor Maintenance facility, will replace the Sealth, starting with the 2:45 p.m. sailing from Point Defiance. WSF has canceled the 1:50 p.m. sailing from Point Defiance and the 2:15 p.m. sailing from Tahlequah.
Onboard crew members discovered the small crack during inspection while the Kitsap was tied up overnight in Bremerton. The crack was about 3 feet below the waterline and resulted in water flowing into two of the hull’s compartment spaces, WSF reports. It will be tugged to drydock at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle for repair on Thursday.
