iFerry - Washington State Ferries

The App

Taking a boat ride may seen like an enviable activity. However, for the 26 million commuters and passengers that travel on the Washington State Ferries every year, navigating across the Puget Sound is sometimes anything but enjoyable. Schedule changes, boat delays and seasonal traffic can all come together to cause travel headaches. We created iFerry so you have to worry less about these things, which makes riding the Washington State Ferries a much more enjoyable experience.

We began work on iFerry in July 2009. What started as a simple idea -- to learn how to build and launch an iPhone App, using the Washington State Ferries as a sandbox -- became an exciting opportunity to help passengers reach their destination as quickly as possible. We launched in September 2009. We had our first iPhone App Store download on (to be updated).

We have some really neat technology planned for iFerry, including: real-time GPS of every boat which would allow us to tell you if your boat is leaving on time; probability indicator for driving onto your planned boat; electronic storage and display of your Wave2Go tickets; and much, much more! Visit the Forum for more information and to contribute your thoughts.
